  • The Impending Obesity Epidemic
    Monday, Nov. 6th 2006 5:34 AM

It is almost certain now that the whole world is suffering from obesity; however, Europe faces the most uphill task in controlling the epidemic of obesity. Health experts say that by 2010, obesity epidemic will increase the health costs that will certainly have a direct impact on economic development.

The problem of obesity has affected even the children apart from adults. It has been estimated that in Europe, 23% men, 36% women, and around 33% of children are obese. I hope you can well understand the impending problem that is lurking large on our necks. Similar is the case in America. People are finding it hard to fight with the problem of Obesity than any other disease. And no wonder that weight loss medicines and programs are increasing day-by-day.

The problems looms large because the medications and programs oriented for weight loss are not working potentially. People run away for crash weight loss programs that help them to shed extra pounds in few days–this trick often fails as people have not regulated their diet habits; have not incorporated any change in their life-style; and at the same time, do not supplement the dietary regulations with physical exercise.
Specialists are finding it hard to control the epidemic of obesity, and many countries are planning to have a joint effort to control obesity. What we on our part can do? Do we have any role to play?

Yes, we can learn about this problem better and advise our children to work on some life-style changes that can help them stay away from weight gain. No doubt that at some point we may need to take help of weight loss programs, but that should be a totally thoughtful and analyzed decision. Before we plunge ourselves to other’s advice about losing our weight, we must learn to make ourselves open for that advice.
