  • Tesco leads the campaign

    Tesco, Cadbury Schweppes, and Coca Cola are all set to lead Britain’s biggest food and drink companies, in what could turn out to be a rival sort of for a similar official campaign by food watchdog, when they will be launching a massive new food labeling program. It could sound very clear to you that it is not only the government of any country that is concerned to ensure about good food habits and proper awareness about diets among the masses of that country; but at the same time, the food companies are also motivated by the same urge–it is clear that if government brings out certain regulations, food companies are the most hit by that regulation. So, as a good measure, the companies are themselves taking ample actions to ensure that they are prepared before anything untoward happens to them. 

    A group that constitutes 24 manufacturers and retailers of food items, will launch the television and print campaign that will begin on January 8, 2007. It is estimated that the campaign will cost around $8 million. If you have read some news about the present state of health in the country and the fear of obesity, you might have noticed that the government is also urging food companies to pay proper concern about this issue. In light of such callings from the government, the food companies have clearly come out with a very good program.

    However, the advertisements constituting this campaign will promote a labeling system of guideline daily amounts (GDAs) of salt, sugar, and fat–a program that goes head-to-head with the Food Standard Agency’s official campaign promoting “traffic light” labeling. It can be clearly see that we will be treated with some real tense battle between these two campaigns, which will not be harmful in any way, but will be geared to promote more welfare of the people of the country.
